About Minooka, IL - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Minooka is a rural town outside of Chicago with a population of about 4,000. It shares similar weather conditions to Chicago but that is where the similarities end. It is a tiny town with few businesses or attractions but the town motto is “A Nice Place to Call Home” and that is certainly true for people who enjoy the moderate weather and a quiet life.
Hunted and farmed by Native Americans until the 1830’s, the town was settled by white people in 1833. At that time it was called “Summit” because of its high elevation. Later, the name was changed to “Minooka” which was said to mean “high point” in the language of the Native Americans who had originally inhabited the area. It is very small and has very few “claims to fame” but Minooka is a nice place to experience the seasons and enjoy a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Chicago.
If you are looking for a fun day and want to get out of Minooka, many of the neighboring towns feature wonderful attractions. On a nice, warm day in spring or summer, it would be a nice day trip to visit the historical sites which are all able to be walked to in downtown Lockport or the Fox River in Aurora. In the cooler winter months, the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet is worth a visit. Minooka is sort of an “every town” America which is a huge part of its charm and appeal.
